Samurdhi system was introduced in order to help disadvantaged people in Sri Lanka by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL). The estimated low income earners are 30% of the entire population in Sri Lanka. The direct Samurdhi beneficiaries who receive Samurdhi stamps can be valued as 1.7 million families in Sri Lanka. However, Samurdhi program has focused on low income earners who may not be the direct beneficiaries but to improve living standards and income generation activities.
